You’re one of our Brand Ambassadors, part of the Shapermint Crew! What inspired you to join the Crew?
I am ALL about empowering others while empowering myself. I really LOVE how Shapermint inspires and empowers its customers. Being a part of the Shapermint Crew allowed me to continue to empower others and myself, too!
What do you enjoy most about being on the Crew?
Fashion and empowerment!!! I LOVE being able to incorporate my favorite Shapermint pieces into my own personal style. I feel SO empowered when I wear Shapermint's pieces (I'm actually wearing my Shapermint tank during this interview! :)).
How do you want to shape change with us?
I have always been a firm believer that everybody is a beautiful body. I remember reading Seventeen magazines in middle school and seeing that they had a body positivity challenge. Since my middle school years, my body has changed but I have learned to love and adapt to its changes with my own style and through showing off my favorite Shapermint products. I hope I can showcase that style can be beautiful on everybody's body, no MATTER what your shape is.
How do you define body positivity?
To me, body positivity is about being comfortable in your own shape and learning to love your body, despite its imperfections. I do feel that self-love is an ever-evolving journey that we are continuously making peace with on our own. Similarly speaking, body positivity is ever-evolving as our body changes over time. Personally, I find fashion a way to embrace my own body positivity through my bright and bubbly personal style! - Katie
How does Shapermint help you celebrate your shape?
I feel that Shapermint's products allow me to feel my best while looking my best. I feel empowered and excited whenever I put on a pair of Shapermint leggings, tanks, or even tights. Shapermint's products are such great quality, too, which makes me feel even better and more celebrated while wearing them.
Self-love is especially important. Do you have any particular rituals or routines that spark self-love?
I always start the day with a cup of coffee and light candles for the day. I always feel more fueled and at peace to kick off my day with coffee and candles, as I am primarily working from home. My favorite self-love ritual is to pick out my outfit for the next day! When I was in high school and started to take more and more advanced classes and extracurriculars, what really brightened up my day was picking out my outfit for the next day. I always feel like a million bucks in a cute outfit to take on the world!
We absolutely love the fact that you use social media as a liberating force to celebrate body positivity and other movers & shapers out there. Are there any women on social media who inspire you to be your best self?
Yes, yes, yes! Here are a few and their IG handles: Emily of @loveemilydarling, Jamie of miss.maximalist, Stephanie of @slythestylist, Lindsay of @sunshineandstairclimbs, & Holly of @hollysglitterylife. There are many more, too, but these 5 ladies make me feel empowered every day as I watch them explore their own iconic styles and prioritize their own mental health.
What is your favorite Shapermint essential? How do you like to style it?
When was the last time you tried something new that you thought you couldn’t do? Can you share more?
I live in the Washington, DC area and there is SO MUCH to do around here, whether it be museums, monuments, performances, or restaurants. I have recently started doing things on my own via "solo dates" here and there. In college, I had a fear of sitting alone in the dining hall during my freshman year, so to be able to do something on my own is groundbreaking for me, especially in a big city. I go thrifting and to museums on my own quite a bit, and I feel empowered and recharged having done that ALL on my own, too.
Looking in front of the mirror, what would you want to tell yourself?
Look at how far you've come. When I was 10, I dreamed to be where I am today. Celebrate that! Good things will come, and be happy with where you are right now.
