July 10, 2020 | Shapermint Team

National French Fries Day

Potato-lovers, rejoice - it’s National French Fry Day!

(Yes! It’s a thing!)

And Team Shapermint never passes up an opportunity to celebrate. So in honor of this deliciously dippable restaurant staple, here’s a super simple recipe for mouth-watering stove-top french fries you can make at home whenever the craving strikes.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 medium russet potatoes
  • 1/4 c. white vinegar
  • 1 tsp. salt, plus more for serving
  • Peanut oil, for frying

DIRECTIONS

Peel potatoes and cut into 1/4" sticks. Place in a medium bowl and cover with cold water and vinegar. Stir to combine.

Allow potatoes to brine (AKA sit in the liquid) in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, then drain and spread onto a paper-towel lined plate in a single layer.

Sprinkle with salt and let sit for 5 minutes.

Fill a large pot about 2/3 of the way with peanut oil over medium heat.

Once hot, add fries to oil and cook for 3 minutes. Drain on a paper towel lined plate and increase oil temperature to 375° and fry 4 minutes more.

Transfer to a paper towel lined plate or bowl and sprinkle with salt.

Serve hot with your choice of condiments.

Speaking of condiments, which are your favorites? Classic ketchup? Mayo? Ranch? Vinegar? One yummy potato dish - SO many possibilities! Let us know what you usually go for in the comments below.
