Celebrating Black History Month 2022

February 5, 2022 | Shapermint Team

New Post

This month, we honor and pay respect to those who have fought for civil liberty and freedom, particularly some historic women who deserve to be remembered and celebrated.

Women Who Shaped Black History

Just to name a few, here are some of the inspiring women worth recognizing.

Rosa Parks

Married into activism, and played a pivotal role in the Alabama civil rights movement. In the face of gender and race bias, they broke barriers, and their efforts continue to impact society.

“I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.” Rosa Parks

Sojourner Truth

Known for her famous “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech at the Ohio Women’s Rights Convention in 1851. She was born into slavery and an early activist for civil and women’s rights.

"Truth is powerful, and it prevails." - Sojourner Truth

Harriet Tubman

Known for her courage in leading the Underground Railroad and freed more than 700 slaves in her lifetime.

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman

Fannie Lou Hamer

Known for her powerful voice for the civil rights movement and leader who fought for voting rights, economic opportunity, and equality for all African Americans

"Nobody's free until everybody's free." - Fannie Lou Hamer

2022 Black History Month

The Theme of 2022 Black History Month

Each year, the American president designates a specific theme tied to Black History Month. And for 2022, the theme is “Black Health and Wellness”. This theme urges us to take a look at how the African-American community has often been underserved by American healthcare.

How to Celebrate

Stream Black music history

Learn and experience the rich history of Black American music through free resources online such as the Black Music History Library and #312 Soul.

Support Black-owned businesses

Whether you need to order online or pay a safe visit to a local shop, Black History Month is a time to hone in on what you’re doing to support the community around you. You can search for the nearest Black businesses using tools like Support Black Owned, Shop Black Owned, and We Buy Black.

Donate to charities and Black organizations

You can help fund programs through your monetary support. You may donate to non-profit organizations such as Black Lives Matter, the NAACP, and Color of Change.
